Dr. Yuan Ling is a research scientist at Artificial Intelligence Lab in Philips Research North America, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Her current research interests include solving problems related to Clinical Diagnostic Inference and Medical Image Caption Generation using Natural Language Processing (NLP), Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning techniques. She has published 15 papers and has been cited more than 45 times since 2012.
Nowadays, a large portion of clinical documents are only available in free text. Using Natural language processing (NLP) techniques to transfer free clinical text into standard knowledge representation are critical for clinical decision support (CDS). Structured KBs are constructed to store attribute/type information for entities and their relations, and they are widely used for supporting NLP tasks in many domains. Unstructured Text Sources, such as articles from Wikipedia and MayoClinic corpus, are also important for clinical NLP tasks. In this talk, I will discuss about using different kinds of unstructured text and structured KBs to handle clinical NLP problems. In the first part of this talk I will introduce my studies about clinical diagnosis inference from free clinical text. In the second part, I will present our research work on medical image caption generation.
